Hi! I’m Liz. I’m 40 years old, vegan, and live in Stoke-on-Trent, England. Stoke is no Portland, San Francisco or Brighton, I can tell you. So I do a lot of cooking and a lot of travelling. I’m not a very creative cook, so I cook mostly from books or websites. I also test recipes for various cookbook writers, which is great fun. I’m the Vegan Society contact for Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme, so please do get in touch if you have any questions!
hi liz
i love your blog! i’ve recently become vegan and your blog has helped me with some ideas. i’ve got some of the same cookbooks as you, and have managed to find most ingredients that i need apart from Vital Wheat Gluten! i read that you ordered some on the internet, where did you get it from please?
thank you very much in anticipation of your help and keep on blogging!
jane
I got mine from the low carb store here http://www.lowcarbmegastore.com/wheat_gluten_powder_details.html
Thanks for commenting!
Hi Liz, I found your blog via Veggie Chat and I have to say it’s very impressive – I think I could spend hours looking at the photos! I was wondering if it would be ok to link to your blog from my website? It would be from the ‘what do vegans eat?’ page (http://www.cookingforvegans.co.uk/whatdoveganseat.html) – the aim is to demonstrate to non-vegans what a wide variety of foods we eat (i.e. that we don’t just live on apples and twigs like they think) and your blog is a really good example of that!
Of course you can! The more links the better! I’m glad you like it (and your website is a fab idea too!)
wow, I’ve found 2 English vegan bloggers in one day! I’m also a cookbook user, I have a bit of an obsession with them and collect as many as I can afford! I’ve just moved from Liverpool where I lived about 2 miles from Everton’s ground to Cleveland, big change of scene but I am pleased to report that it isn’t an area lacking in vegan products (just places to eat out, but Liverpool was pretty bad for that anyway!
Looking forward to reading more!
I love your blog! Your cupboards and bookshelves must be the same as mine!!
Do you ever go back to Liverpool?
Hi Liz! A very thorough and delightful site you’ve got here! I can add some of my experiences with South American food – although I’m mostly vegetarian, I manage to get by over the pond.
Hi Liz
It’s a beautiful site, which I could enjoy even more if I were vegan. But expertly put together. Just like yourself.
Richard
Being a vegan i just want to say keep up the good work

What an effort, and what fun! I’ve slowly begun a cookbook, and look forward to the day when it becomes a reality, though I truly don’t mind how long it takes. I’m a Vegan and love Vegan food for more than the tastes and textures-it’s a path, a journey, a life well-lived, a tribute to the planet & its voiceless beings, and a trip to be in the kitchen creating.
I look forward to the point when I will invite folks to test some of the recipes via my blog.
Cheers.
Hi there,
I found your blog linked on another vegan blog. I’m sort of a new vegan (almost a year) and love cooking from cookbooks. I started with your recent cookbook reviews and read every single one. This is great because I have always wondered about these books. Now I know what to put my Christmas list.
Your 100 list was very helpful too because I did not know some of the name brand things listed were vegan. That will come in handy while shopping.
Now I am making my way through all the old posts and loving it. What a great way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon.
Thank you!
Hi Liz. Great blog!
I’m a vegan living in Errington, British Columbia, Canada.
I don’t usually follow blogs but I ran across yours by accident while looking for something else and I’m hooked. I will definitely be following you and will spread the word to friends.
By the way, a few books you may be very interested in are “Vegan Vittles”, “How it all Vegan and “La Dolce Vegan”. All are very user friendly with no-fail recipes.
I look forward to seeing what you make next.
My newest Vegan Cookbook is: “Vegan Planet” by Robin Robertson. I’ve been wanting it for sometime now and had my yearly $15 coupon from Borders to seal the deal!
This, too, is very user-friendly and filled with a wide array of absolutely wonderful recipes. The next books on my wish list are: “1000 Vegan Recipes”, also by Robin Robertson, and “The Vegan Table” by Colleen Patrick-Goudreau. I’ve had Colleen’s book (her 2nd) from the library, but want it for my own!
Enjoy your books, everyone! and for next Sunday –
Happy Valentine’s Day.
Great blog, I use a lot of the books you are covering as well. Your blog inspired me to start my own blog, which is taking non-vegan cookbooks and turning them vegan.
Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi, Liz –
It was so nice to meet you at the Chicago Diner earlier today. I look forward to pouring over your delicious looking recipes! Thanks for all you do!

Great blog find! I’m a vegan in England too. Thank you so much for your hard work on this site, it’s great to have some scrummy recipes, reviews of ones you’ve made from the best books out there, product reviews etc. Keep it up 🙂

Hi Liz
Been meaning to link to your blog for ages!
Got around to it today after reading the injera thread on Wildfood.
Love the sound of the Oativa! I often look at the ingredients in such things as Realeat roast chicken, and I’m always disappointed when I see the egg in there.
I’ll be nice to have something to slice for a sandwich which isn’t soya based!
Cheers, Paul
Also for UKers wishing to buy gluten flour: I get mine from Flourbin who also have a good stock of other flours (brown rice, spelt etc) Postage is 6.95 and gluten is in 1.85 packs so I buy about ten at a time to make the postage more sensible. Chinatown is best for tempeh where you get a really good sized block for 2.99 as opposed to the tiny ones in health food shops.
You have such a great blog. I’m a fairly new vegan and have a real struggle finding specialist food locally – all we have is Holland and Barratt! I seem to have been eating a lot of Linda McCartney sausages…. Thanks for the great reviews on your pages – really useful.
Thanks Liz, some great recipes shared.
I’ll be trying them out on the wife and kids!
I’m also stuck in the wilderness that is Newcastle-under-Lyme…
Hi Liz,
great to see there’s another vegan in Stoke as obsessed with food as I am.
If you ever want to split the postage on some wheat gluten from the Low Carb Megastore – or practically anything else, in fact – please let me know. 🙂
Sincerely
– Graham
Just thought i’d get in touch and say ‘hello’, I’m also a UK vegan blogger joining in with Vegan MOFO this year for the first time (I found you whilst browsing the list). It’s lovely to make contact with other UK based vegan bloggers and your site is very informative! Enjoy the rest of Vegan MOFO.
