Goody Good Stuff Sweets – Review and Giveaway

As you know I don’t often eat sweets. I don’t have a naturally sweet tooth so I don’t really mind when people from work sometimes bring in non vegan sweets, biscuits and cakes. However, I know that there are many vegans and vegetarians out there who do eat sweets and one of the most common gripes is how difficult it is to find gummy sweets without gelatin in. There are also plenty of people who aren’t necessarily vegetarian or vegan but don’t want to eat crushed up animal bones in their sweets!Β In my younger days, I did enjoy sour gummy sweets, particularly those cola bottles that were so sour they made your face pucker.

Goody Good Stuff have a range of sweets that don’t contain gelatin. They are all vegetarian and 4 of them are vegan. As well as the gelatin, they don’t have any artificial colours or flavourings and use only natural fruit and vegetable juices. They were kind enough to send me a packet each of the vegan flavours to try, so I decided to share them at work. I didn’t say that they were vegan, but just left them on the table in the staff room at work as we normally do.

They certainly disappeared pretty quickly. Unsurprisingly, I liked the cola flavour the best and ate nearly the whole packet before the other people at work even realised they were there. In general, the peach ones seemed to be the most popular with the others but none of them lingered around for long. No-one commented that they were weird or vegan tasting! If I’m going to eat sweets, these are the type I’d eat more of, and if I had children, these are the sweets I’d be putting in their party bags or lunchboxes.

Goody Good Stuff have kindly offered to send a packet of each of the vegan flavours to one of my lucky readers. To be in with a chance to win, just leave a comment on my blog saying why you’d like to win. UK only please. I’ll draw one out at random on January 30th.

  1. oooh yes please! I used to be a sweetie fiend but just gave up on sweets since going vegan 2 years ago as I figured the majority would contain animal ingredients- all those E numbers making them especially hard to navigate, not to mention especially unhealthy..These, on the other hand tick all the boxes πŸ™‚

  2. Goodies sweets rocks we tried them at Bristol Vegan Festival about 2 years back, so hard to get in the UK even after seeing them at vegan festival, a chance to win a bag would rock.

    Thanks

  3. I’d love to win this because Goody Good Stuff are an awesome way to keep your sugar levels up through the day. I’ve only tried the peach flavour I think but I loved it.

  4. I’d love to win because these sweets are awesome, but I hardly ever get to buy them, because my local store that sells them has always sold out of the vegan friendly ones and only ever seems to have the vegetarian ones in stock. Plus, I love your blog!

  5. Hi Liz,
As you know, I’m omnivorous but like you – don’t usually bother with sweets. (And please put me back in the hat, if I’m picked out at random). The chemistry and geography involved (de-natured sugars from unsustainable sources etc.) scare me.

I’m just commenting to say that it’s good that manufacturers care enough about their product to say whether they are fit for vegan/vegetarian etc. Most manufactured foods, especially meat and general ‘sweet stuff’ (pastries and the like) have all sorts of rubbish hidden in them. For example: when manufacturers say that bread is wholesome they are being disingenuous, as is not entirely true. The mass manufacture of bread has changed so much in my lifetime that it now contains twice the amount of fat that it used to – or needs.

Be careful what you eat. Read the label.

Thanks for the posts. I enjoy reading them.

  10. I’m vegan and only discovered these the other day. The sour ones are the best ever! It’s also my birthday this week so would be an excellent present! I’m also newly allergic to cocoa powder so this is one of the only pleasures I have left! ;0)
