International Weekend – Jyoti

No football this weekend as England were playing. We normally take advantage of these breaks and go away somewhere. We didn’t want to go far so we headed to Birmingham to try Jyoti vegetarian Indian restaurant in Sparkbrook. The menu is huge with loads of vegan options all clearly labelled. You can take your own alcohol too. We decided on the set meal for 2, as it gave us a chance to try everything. The style of food is Gujerati, but the family originate from Tanzania. It made for an interesting mix of flavours, with heavy use of cloves and other aromatic spices. I didn’t note the names of all the dishes, but we started with a type of samosa, lentil balls, and some little things which were a bit like mini poppadoms stuffed with bombay mix. Then we had rice, dahl, chickpea curry, aubergine and potato curry, a spinach and paneer curry for hubby, 3 different breads, then kulfi for him and Swedish Glace for me. Yumyumyum.
