A new cookbook arrived this week! Yellow Rose Recipes by Joanna Vaught. She’s a regular poster on the Post Punk Kitchen forums and the book is getting a lot of praise on there. I had to order it from Amazon.com but fortunately the exchange rate is still so good that it didn’t break the bank.

It’s a lovely book full of recipes that I will actually cook. There’s some soya cheese used but not much, and unlike many vegan cookbooks, there’s even pictures of lots of the dishes!

So on Saturday I didn’t have to leave for the football until 11:30 so I decided I’d have a big brunch. I’d been looking at the Snobby Jo recipe in Veganomicon but I didn’t have all the ingredients so I decided to test out Yellow Rose and go for the Sloppy Joannas instead. I’ve never eaten or even seen a real Sloppy Jo sandwich so I don’t know what I’m comparing it with, but it was certainly delicious. It’s a mix of TVP with tomatoes, onions, garlic, liquid smoke, mustard and various spices. I had to use a knife and fork as it was particularly sloppy, but highly recommended. And I’m sure if you have children to feed they’d adore it too.
